Traditional liposuction is often seen as an invasive and painful procedure. However, in recent years, Vaser liposuction has become the fat-shifting procedure of choice for many patients.

Vaser liposuction uses ultrasound technology to disrupt the bond between fat cells, meaning they can be easily removed using a small cannula. The procedure can be used anywhere on the body, from the face to the thighs, and can even help remove cellulite.

As only minor incisions need to be made, Vaser liposuction causes less bruising and bleeding and offers faster recovery times. However, like all surgical procedures, it’s still important to look after yourself.

Here are our tips for fast recovery after Vaser liposuction.

Is Vaser liposuction safe?

Many people worry if Vaser liposuction is dangerous, but it’s one of the safest ways of removing fat cells from the body. There is no risk to other parts of the body and as it’s less invasive, the procedure is typically carried out under local anaesthetic. This means you’ll be awake throughout.

At New Birkdale Clinic, health, safety and well-being are paramount. Our surgeons have decades of expertise, you’ll undergo Vaser liposuction in our state-of-the-art CQC-regulated hospital, and you’ll have access to 24 hours a day aftercare after your procedure.

Recovery time after Vaser liposuction

With traditional liposuction, it generally takes seven days before you can return to work. With Vaser liposuction, you can be back at work in three days.

Overall recovery times depend on where you’re having Vaser liposuction carried out and your general health. However, the right approach to aftercare can help too!

How to prepare for Vaser liposuction

Preparing for your Vaser liposuction means that you will heal quicker and recover faster. Here is how to get ready in the days and hours before your procedure:

  • Stop taking aspirin, ibuprofen and vitamin E supplements two weeks before Vaser liposuction. These medicines can cause excessive bleeding, which can delay your recovery time. Some other medications may also cause bleeding; your surgeon will discuss these with you before your procedure date
  • Start taking vitamin A, vitamin C, and iron supplements. These vitamins will improve the healing process and keep your immune system healthy
  • Stop smoking three weeks before your procedure. This will help you recover more efficiently
  • Make sure you have someone who can take you home after your procedure and help look after you while you recover
  • Stock up on dark and loose clothing – this will help you feel more comfortable and make leakage less conspicuous!

Vaser liposuction aftercare tips

A fast recovery means you’ll be able to get back to everyday life as soon as possible, with minimal pain, bruising, and swelling. Here’s how to see those incredible results sooner rather than later.

Eat healthily

While it may be tempting to stay in bed and order a pizza while you recover, it’s essential to watch what you eat and drink. Drinking lots of water will flush the toxins from your body and help reduce swelling.

Healthy proteins like lean chicken, seafood, and seeds will help fight infection and create collagen that will help incisions heal faster. If you’re feeling bloated, eat lots of fibre-rich foods like whole wheat bread, cereals, fruit, and vegetables.

Try some gentle exercise

While heavy lifting and vigorous exercise are not recommended until at least five to six weeks after your procedure, some gentle exercise can promote blood circulation and accelerate healing.

A light walk or some gentle stretches are great ways to get moving.

Get in touch if you think something isn’t right

Leaking in the first few days is normal; this is just saline, anaesthetic solution, and a little blood leaving your body.

However, if you think something isn’t normal, for example, your wounds aren’t healing, or you’re experiencing a high temperature, contact your designated patient coordinator. They will be able to assess your situation and let you know the best course of action to take.

At the New Birkdale Clinic, we have an aftercare helpline available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so you can talk to us anytime during the day or night.
