Breast uplift surgery, or a mastopexy, has the potential to be a fantastic option for people who are experiencing some breast laxity and instead want their natural breasts to appear fuller and sit in a perkier position on their chest. This is often associated with looking more youthful, as breasts can sag with age or life events such as childbirth and weight fluctuations.
It is possible to perform breast lift surgery with or without implants, and patients can see great results with either option depending on their specific case and their treatment desires.
But how long can a patient expect their results to last for? See the rest of our blog for our answers.
How long do breast lift results last for?
Generally, breast lift results may last for up to 15 years, although some patients may want revision surgery before this date.
After your treatment, your surgeon will provide you with a detailed list of aftercare instructions and it is very important that you follow this. Not only to keep your body healthy after surgery, but also to ensure you see the best possible results for as long as you can.

What you can do to make your breast lift last for longer
Within your surgeon’s aftercare instructions, you will find advice on how to care for your newly-treated breasts both in the short and the long term. If you follow this advice, you will be setting yourself up nicely for many years of happiness with your breasts.
The most popular advice given to patients regarding care for their breasts after mastopexy is as follows:
Avoid rapid weight gain or loss
You should try your best to remain in control of any weight gain or loss as quick fluctuations in weight may be to the detriment of your breast’s appearance. If you are unhappy with your weight and want to gain or lose weight then it may be best to try and meet your target weight before having surgery.
This includes weight gain as a result of pregnancy. And while you may still be able to breastfeed after a breast lift, you should note that breastfeeding will most likely affect the appearance of your breasts.
The ideal patient for a breast lift is likely to be someone who is at their ideal weight and is finished having children, so therefore does not plan on getting pregnant or breastfeeding in the future.
Wear fitted support bras
We recommend that immediately following surgery, our patients wear a firmly fitted support bra for around six weeks.
And even after this period, wearing a properly fitted bra is still important to extend the lifespan of your breast lift results. When patients do not wear a bra, their breasts are more likely to sag at a quicker rate due to the effects that gravity has on them and gradually pulling them down by stretching the fibres within the skin.
Retain skin elasticity
Retaining skin elasticity as best as you can is of vital importance to keeping your breasts looking at their best after mastopexy.
While there may be genetic factors that will affect the amount of collagen and elastin that you have in your skin, there are some actions that you can take to have a say on this matter yourself. This includes eating a healthy diet filled with vegetables for important nutrients, avoiding exposure to the sun and UV light, and refraining from smoking.
If you wish, you can also take some dietary supplements such as vitamin C and E, if you find that you do not get enough of these vitamins in your diet.

How long does a breast lift without implants last?
A breast lift without implants can last for up to 15 years. You are likely to have longer lasting results with this form of breast lift, as breast implants may need replacing after 10 years.
Although, it is important to remember that everybody is different and you may find that your body responds differently to others after surgery.
You may experience sagging of the breasts less than 15 years after your breast lift surgery and want to see a surgeon again sooner. Likewise, there is the potential that under the best circumstances breast implants can last for longer than 10 years.
This is why it is important you have a thorough discussion with your cosmetic surgeon at your consultation, so they can inform you on what you should expect to see with your results based on your specific body and treatment type.
How long does a breast lift take?
Breast lift surgery takes between 90 minutes and 2 hours to complete.
You will need to receive anaesthetic prior to your surgery, and then be monitored post-surgery before you are allowed to leave. This can potentially involve you remaining in the clinic for monitoring for the day or overnight depending on your operation time.
